Portrait Medallion: Appolonius

Black basalt medallion of Apollonius of Perga, aka the Great Geometer, one of the founders of Greek astronomy. His work on conic sections gave us the ellipse, the parabola and the hyperbola; he is thus responsible for boring generations of school children.
