A chess piece from the set designed by John Flaxman, in white jasper.
According to Barnard, 130 sets of jasper chess men were soldbetween 1785 and 1795. Reilly notes that the last recorded order from this period is in 1812. More often seen with coloured bases; however a part set in white is in the Soane Museum: this set belonged to Flaxman himself.
