Death of Meleage/Roman Warrior

Death of Meleage; also known as Death of a Roman Warrior.

An important, early example of this most desirable example of Wedgwood's output. The relief is deep and detailed, with added features, such as the foot of the boy at bottom left.

Although this plaque continued to be made through the nineteenth century, production was infrequent and in small batches, as there were serious firing difficulties, owing to the size and elaborate detail.

The plaque has been broken in two in the past, and recently expertly & invisibly restored.
