Charles Pratt, later Lord Camden, was a strong advocate for civil liberties and played a key role in opposing general warrants, particularly in the famous case of Entick v Carrington (1765), which helped establish protections against unlawful search and seizure. He was also a supporter of American colonial rights and opposed the British government's policies that led to the American Revolution.

He was elevated to the peerage as Baron Camden in 1765 and later became Earl Camden in 1786. His legacy includes Camden Town in London, which was named after him.
