Printed Delftware Tile

Sadler & Green were one of the earliest transfer printers, and started by printing delftware tiles such as this one, of a fashionable couple walking past a potted pineapple.

The print is probably copied from The Ladies' Amusement, a book of decorative engravings.

They were later to find fame as Wedgwood’s printers.
