Teapot: octagonal, spaniel finial

An unusual, marked example of Spode’s excellent basalt body: a six-sided teapot, decorated with Charlotte at the Tomb of Werther and Andromache with the Ashes of Hector.

This teapot is notable amongst Spode's output for being an original design, and for being marked. Much of Spode's output copied Wedgwood designs and was unmarked, probably with the intention to deceive.
