A large tea-pot, or perhaps a punch pot, of globular form with loop handle. Painted in a vibrant wet palette after the Chinese. A most attractive example, of unusual size. The pot has close links to (i) the ‘Frederick the Great’ example, circa 1756-58, V&A, #414:181-1885, of similar size, body and glaze (albeit of different shape), and with a similar rose and leaf finial.

The pot has close links to (i) the ‘Frederick the Great’ example, circa 1756-58, V&A, Gift Lady Charlotte Schreiber, Collection #414:181-1885, of similar size, body and glaze (albeit of different shape), and with a similar rose and leaf knop; and (ii) links to the Freeman Collection, #63, coffee pot and cover with moulded and painted rose and leaf finial, as circa 1758. Large pots such as this were, at this date, probably either intended for group use, for punch, advertising, or as cabinet pieces. No other Bow examples appear to be recorded.

Prov: Taylor Collection; Winifred Williams, 1965.
