Cup and saucer: Etruscan

Black basalt, with rope handle and encaustic decoration of lines & anthemion, in imitation of early Greek pottery. The interior unglazed, only found with early examples as they did not sell as well; the glazed interiors being considered more hygenic.

Early encaustic examples are rare and hard to find in such good condition.
