The Biedermeier style originates in Northern Europe around 1810, and was popular until C1850, after which more elaborate forms came to dominate taste. There was a revival of interest around 1900-1920, which led into the Art Deco style of the 1930s. The style is characterised by simepl, clean lines and the use of elaborate veneers and sometimes ebonised details; examples are usually compact, as the style was intended for the new apartment living.
The style suggests Scandinavia.
