Miniature, in the white. The bird perched on rocks, wings extended and head raised. Finely potted with even clear glaze. Straw translucency. Base wiped of glazed. H.2.0 in (5 cm).
This model would appear to be unrecorded although a pigeon, possibly a little later, 1.3 in high, illustrated Bradshaw 1992 (B179, plate 176, may suggest a possible series of miniature ‘domestic’ birds.
Provenance: with Parkside Antiques, Melbourne, 1977.
The bird presumably a gull but the omission of detail consequent on its small size makes this impossible to confirm. The figure was probably part of a set for decoration of the dessert. No example of an object with a finial of this form has been identified.
