Of tapering cylindrical form, enamelled in reds, greens, yellows, plum and brown with an exotic bird in a fanciful landscape amidst berried branches on which rest two smaller birds; the reverse with a similar bird amongst berried branches. All beneath an iron red lambrequin border of flower heads, loops and scrolls; the ribbed loop handle with scrolling decoration in red and with a heart-shaped terminal. Even, white, close fitting glaze. Straw translucency. Base glazed within wiped footrim.

The decoration of the tankard is by the same hand as that on the documentary baluster-shaped mug inscribed on base: ‘Rd & My, TIDSWELL 1772’, H. 5.9 in (15.0 cm). Sale, Sotheby’s, London, 22 -23 February 1998, #630.
